Te Puna Mātauranga o Wairuakohu is an online repository of information about a research collaboration involving kaitiaki of Wairuakohu and research partners.
Background
The collaboration began with two independent strands of research – one begun by Prof Oliver Kayser from the Technical University of Dortmund who approached Dr Richard Espley at Plant & Food Research (now the Bioeconomy Science Institute) to help with sample collection. The other with Manu Caddie in 2017 as part of his work with Hikurangi Bioactives Limited Partnership.
In 2019 Rua Bioscience committed funds to support PFR and PFR subsequently contributed its own resources to the work. Te Kawerau a Maki, Ngāti Hinerangi and Ngāti Hauā joined the collaboration between 2019 and 2021. In 2022 Manu Caddie via IO Ltd sponsored a three year programme of pre-clinical studies and Callaghan Innovation is co-funding this sub-project, IO Ltd also supported toxicology tests and other activities.
The Bioeconomy Science Institute and the Ministry for Business Innovation & Employment have recently supported kaitiaki engagement.
